City Church is staring a reading group in 2019. Each month, we will pick a book to read together and process within community. It’s simple. We will announce the book. You order it and read it. We will organize a meet-up and / or a podcast towards the end of the month.
January Reading Group Gathering
Thursday, January 31; 7:00 PM - Johnny’s Downstairs
A few things to note:
We are hoping for a variety of genres and perspectives. Some we will agree with. Others, we won’t. It is our hope that we can foster charitable and respectful dissuasion with ideas and others from differing viewpoints.
Even if you don’t get through the book, you are welcome to join in the discussion. Just be warned that we may spoil the ending.
You are welcome to jump in and out of the reading group throughout year. However, be open to surprise. A book might not initially attract you, but you might be better for it.
The group is open to everyone, not jus those within our church community. Feel free to invite anyone you think would have interest.
Keep checking back to this webpage for details on our monthly meet-up.
January’s Book: TRIBE by Sebastian Junger
Tribe: Sebastian Junger
“We have a strong instinct to belong to small groups defined by clear purpose and understanding--"tribes." This tribal connection has been largely lost in modern society, but regaining it may be the key to our psychological survival.”
